Serving with him are Ray Williford as vice-president, Judith Currin as secretary, Betty Lou Rawls as treasurer, and .A-iinie Laura Dixon as historian. Belcher is a member of the Monogram Club, president of Miss Bunn’s homeroom, and co-captain of the varsity football team on which he plays halfback. He plans to play basketball and track later. Ray is a Student Council representative, a member of the Monogram Club and French Club, and plays center on the football team. He also plans to parti cipate in basketball and track. Judith is on the Oxonian staff, secretary of the Student Council, secretary of F. H. A,, reporter for G. A. A., and president of Miss Averett’s homeroom. Betty Lou is in G. A. A., vice-president of F. H. A,, Bus Drivers’ Club, an honor ary' French Club member, and vice-presi dent of the Student Council. -Annie Laura is in F. T. A,, Latin Club, and on the Owl Staff. Mary Helen Blackwell Heads Owl Staff Mary Helen Blackwell will be editor- in-chief of the Owl this year. Eleanor Lewis is associate editor. Kitty Boddie is business manager, with Bill Hicks as assistant. Nancy Lawson is photographer, as last year. Martha Perkins is circulation manager. Sports editors are Charles West and John Critcher. Reporters are grouped below; Carolyn Brooks, Sylvia Clark, Annie Laura Dixon, Brenda Gupton, Barbara Rogers, Shirley Christine Hicks Leads Seniors Christine Hides, a Beta Club member, was elected Senior president at the first class meeting this fall. Charles Stovall, who was Junior presi dent last year, was picked for vice-presi dent. Mary Helen Blackwell, who has served as secretary her Sophomore and junior years, is now Senior secretary. Joe Wheeler is treasurer. Class Night speakers were elected as follows: Charlotte Easton, prophet; Mary Helen Blackwell, giftorian; Mary Lou Morgan, poet; William Lytton, testator; Callie Frazier, historian; Fielding Walker, introducer of Seniors. Mesgazine Safes Exceed $2,500 Total magazine sales in the Oxonian Campaign reached $2,532.15, reports Charles Stovall, editor. High homerooms in the drive were Miss .Annie Bell Smith’s seventh grade with $413.88 and Miss Bonnie Bunn’s Juniors with $198.00, Top salesman was Jerry Hedrick with ,$148.94 to his credit. Runner-up W'as jimmy Morton W'ith $74.50. Jerry will receive a 17-jewel watch, and Jimmy a flash camera outfit or a watch. .A bonus of $25,00 goes to Miss Bunn’s room, and an ice cream part)' to Miss Smith’s group. Total sales last year amounted to $2,500. The goal this year was $2,750. Tippett, Flora Watkins, Carolyn West, Tommy Adams, Billy Scale, and Garland Talton. Typists are Mildred Brooks, F'rances Capps, and Polly Daniel. Billy Elliott Picked Again Billy Elliott, last year’s freshman pre sident, was again elected to lead his class. Other officers chosen to work with him are Billy Daniel, vice-president; Mary Elizabeth Currin, secretary; and Donnie Hawlrs, treasurer. .As freshmen, the class elected Thomas .Adams historian, with the idea of retaining him throughout their high school career. Elliott, who plays on the varsity football team, is a member of the Latin Club. He' is also president of Mrs. Speed’s home room. Billy Daniel is a member of the Student Council and is treasurer of Mrs. Speed’s homeroom. “Liba”, who is vice-president of the same homeroom, is a member of the G. .A. .A., the Latin Club, and the .Annual staff. Donnie, a member of the Latin Club, plays on the varsity team. Thomas is a member of the Science Club and the Owl staff. Cynthia Watkins Frosh President Callie Frazier Is Crowned Homecoming Queen F'oUowing the Oxford High-Hillsboro game here October 17, Homecoming Queen Callie Frazier was presented with her court at the annuai Homecoming Dance held in the gym, sponsored by the Student Council, .All high school students and alumni of O.H.S. were invited. Bonnie Lou Currin, accompanied by Betty Daniel at the piano, sang a medley of songs. The highlight of the dance was the pre sentation of the Queen and her court. Callie Frazier, Homecoming Queen, who had previously been crowned by Fielding Walker during the half-time of the game, was escorted by Charles Stovall. In her court were Polly Daniel, maid of honor, escorted by' Charles Belcher; Betty Howard with Ray Williford; Lillian McFarland with Jimmy Frazier; Linda Currin with Billy Daniel; Lea Lea Hall with Donnie Hawks; Cynthia Watkins with Billy Fra zier, and Diane Saunders with Wilbur Longmire. “Royalty and Stars”, the dance theme, was carried out in the decorations and refreshments. At the refreshment table, decorated with stars and scepters, punch, potato chips and cookies were served by members of the Student Council. Cynthia Watkins will lead the Fresh man class this year. The daughter of Mr, and Mrs. John Watkins, she is fresh man representative on Student Council, is in G. A. .A. and is a cheerleader. Billy Frazier was elected vice-president. He is on the varsity football team and Student Council representative. Harry Williams is secretary-treasurer. Fie also plays varsity football. Lynette Currin is historian. Her acti vities include G. A. .A., Student Council, Oxonian staff, and the F. T. A. Beta Club Again Has Large Crowd At Stunt Night Beta Club Stunt Night October 31 again attracted more spectators than could be seated in the auditorium, John Webb and Marsha Ray serving as emcees. Joe Wheeler is Beta president. G. .A. A. won first prize with their skit “Shakespearean Hash”. Those taking part were Betty Lou Rawls, Julia Ruth Car rington, Bonnie Lou Currin, Charlotte Easton, Lclia McFarland, Nancy Griffin, and Lillian McFarland. The French Club won second place with their skit of “Evening in Paris”, and Mr. Habit’s homeroom won third place with “Fashion Parade”, featuring boys model • ing styles. In the talent division Bonnie Lou Currin, soprano soloist, won, Mrs. Squires’ homeroom won the prize in the Junior High with their version of “Lollipop.” Betty Daniel played a medley of songs during intermission. Stunts or talent try-outs were presented by seven high-school homerooms, by' eight in the Junior High, and by nine clubs and organizations. Doris Watson and Bonnie Currin entered the talent division. Other Beta, officers are May White, vice- president, Mildred Brooks, secretary, and Linda Garner, treasurer. To Chapel Hill For S. C. Congress The Student Council Congress is being held November 2-4 at Chapel Flill. Those representing Oxford High School are Mrs. Speed, Fielding Walker, Betty Lou Rawls, and Julia Carrington.
